Dairy production
Dairy production’s environmental footprint is widespread and far-reaching affecting aspects such as water, air and land quality. This extent of this footprint can be measured on a per litre, per head, or a per ha basis, among others, and varies much based on locality and the management practices applied. It can even be beneficial at times through enhanced carbon sequestration.
Here we wish to introduce a tool for the on-farm measuring and monitoring of a dairy producer’s environmental footprint based on South African factors.

Font of pack labelling
Front of Pack Labelling (FOPL) allows for rapid assessment of packaged foods, empowering consumers to make healthier choices. Various FOPL models exist globally. In South Africa, Warning Labels have been proposed for adoption. It is important that the algorithm which underpins the application of Warning Labels considers the unique nutrient credentials of dairy.
